Artists' Statement

Art makes me feel at peace. At times I feel as though the world doesn’t accept me for who I am. So I create characters, and stories through art and writing. As a child, I watched cartoons, as well as anime, this is where I started contemplation of the creator’s process. In High School, I hadn’t shown any interest in art. I’m intrigued by the aspects of the art world in hopes to invent a television series and/or series of comics. Before doing that, I wish to learn everything I can about world of graphics and of Fine Arts.

I find inspiration in Van Gogh’s painting, Starry Night. To me, his work creates a powerful expression that suggests an imminent ending. I love the way he paints real life imagery in most of his portraits and landscapes. As well, I love the way JMW Turner depicts another world that lies beyond this current one. I feel that his landscapes are really deep, that brings in a fantasy-look about them.

What I try to express in my artwork is a sense of imagination¾something to pull the viewer in. My artwork attempts to transport the viewer to other worlds: is what I strive to do. When working on a drawing or painting, I tend to work quickly, and then taking a step back, to get an overall look of the turnout. If it’s unpleasing I re-draw the object/figure or paint over what’s unsatisfying. I am not a person that says I “sketch out my ideas” I normally imagine things clearly. When the work turns out great, I am filled with a sigh of relief! After completion, reexamining my artwork, I find created shapes, surprising color, and am immersed in how interesting it is to look at.
